Employment & Justice-Involved Research Consultant
Client: Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources (OAR) of Fairfax
We are thrilled to announce that we partnered with Opportunities, Alternatives and Resources of Fairfax (OAR) to conduct a needs assessment and strategic scan of employment opportunities, training pathways, and VR-based training solutions for justice-involved individuals across Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties.
The methodology combined quantitative labor market research, qualitative stakeholder input, and applied analysis of VR feasibility programs to produce actionable recommendations.
This project was structured around the three objectives identified by OAR leadership:
- Identify in-demand employment opportunities appropriate for justice-involved individuals.
- Evaluate and recommend local training and credentialing programs that align with those opportunities.
- Recommend innovative VR training solutions that could be integrated into OAR’s virtual headsets.
We delivered key insights and a strategic roadmap necessary for OAR of Fairfax to align their operations, strengthen their internal capacity, and ensure the evolving employment needs of their client base can be met. The partnership between WorkED Consulting and OAR of Fairfax provided a clear path forward in planning and delivering transformative re-entry and workforce development services across Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William counties.
FLP Achieve Evaluation
Client: Palm Beach State College (PBSC)
The Florida Partnership-Achieve (FLP) is a vital initiative dedicated to preparing, inspiring, and connecting minority and underrepresented students with essential opportunities for postsecondary success. This mission is championed by Palm Beach State College (PBSC), which serves as the core operational partner. PBSC has significantly expanded its programmatic focus to encompass critical high-school and middle-school acceleration paths. This includes targeting students for dual enrollment opportunities (across both academic and career courses), AICE and IB programs at the high school level, and early high school credit courses, such as Algebra and Biology, for middle school students.
WorkED Consulting provided an independent evaluation of this multifaceted program. Our role was to assess the efficacy, implementation quality, and resultant outcomes against the College’s three core strategic goals: Educator Expertise, focused on providing teachers with the pedagogical tools necessary to deliver accelerated courses effectively; Communication, designed to ensure timely and comprehensive information reaches students, parents, and schools about program access and postsecondary entrance testing; and Student Preparation, aimed at equipping recruited students from underserved populations attending low-performing schools with the foundational knowledge needed to master assessments and continue their education post-graduation.
PBSC’s main objective for this comprehensive program was to provide targeted, hands-on support to schools, develop robust training and presentations for partnering school districts, and ultimately bolster the academic achievement and college readiness of these targeted minority student populations.
DOL SCC2 Grant
Client: Northeast State Community College (NeSCC)
TGC wrote the winning Round 2 Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant, leading to an award of $1.6 million for Northeast State Community College—one of only six single institution awards.
The project focuses on building the college’s capacity to provide cybersecurity skills training to first generation colleges students, low income residents, and students of color, improving earnings and social mobility for the region’s residents.
DOL SCC2 Project Director
Client: West Virginia University Parkersburg (WVUP)
West Virginia University Parkersburg (WVUP) hired a TGC Coach as their Project Director for their U.S. Department of Labor Strengthening Community Colleges Round 2 grant.
As interim Project Director, the TGC Coach has responded to conditions in the grant agreement and got a budget modification approved, worked with Human Resources to advertise grant positions, developed the procurement announcement for a third-party evaluator, and implemented a performance tracking system and data collection procedures. The TGC Project Director worked closely with the DOL federal project officer and Washington, DC project staff to meet information request deadlines and streamline the program’s performance measures.
